KONSERVASI HUTAN DESA (KONTANDES)
Konservasi Hutan Desa (KONTANDES) is a collaborative forest and biodiversity conservation project in in the Dumaring Village Forest including River Riparian and Tanah Adat Patiraja, Berau Regency (East Kalimantan) of Indonesia.
This project is supported by KLK and covers a total area of 6,428 hectares. Through a participatory and multi-stakeholder approach, involving KLK, Aksenta, Belantara and Lembaga Pengelola Hutan Desa, we aim to achieve high-quality forests while sustainably promoting community welfare.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
- Reduce the direct threats and pressures on forest and biodiversity.
- Improve the quality of the forest and restore the degraded area.
- Promote sustainable use of natural resources and ecosystem services.
- Develop the community capacity in forest and biodiversity conservation.
- Maximize the benefits of the high-quality forest to achieve the welfare of the communities.
HIGHLIGHTS
MULTI-STAKEHOLDERS APPROACH
KONTANDES is a collaboration between KLK, AKSENTA, Yayasan Belantara Mandala Nusantara and the Village Forest Management Institution (LPHD).
LAND COVER
99% of the village forest is still intact; 67% is primary karst forest, 21% is secondary karst forest while 11% is good quality secondary tropical rainforest.
HOME OF FLORA AND FAUNA
The KONTANDES project area is rich in biodiversity, with 280 species of flora and 462 species of fauna.
CAPACITY BUILDING
FOR LOCAL COMMUNITIES
Local communities are provided with opportunities to participate in activities and studies relevant to the project.
SUSTAINABLE USE OF NATURAL RESOURCES TO BENEFIT LOCAL COMMUNITIES
Village-based eco-tourism business opportunities help improve the social and economical welfare of the local community.
